About us:
Music for Memory is a student-led program that aims to connect with memory care facilities through engagement with the power of music. We spread joy, love, and warmth to patients all over Palm Beach County by connecting them with youth musicians. Started in July of 2024, we have continued performing to this day.

-
Connect student musicians to memory care patients
-
Gain the most positive reactions to patients
-
Encourage engagement with patients and to the music.
-
Decrease the feeling of isolation among memory care patients.
-
Find ways for patients to connect with music anytime.
Our Goals
Why
Seniors, especially ones with memory disabilities, tend to feel very isolated and lost because of the confusion that comes with their disability. Research shows that when seniors listen to songs from their time, it stimulates the brain to improve mood and social connection in people with memory care disabilities.
What we do
Music for Memory gathers music students in Palm Beach County and encourages them to play music that patients would be familiar with to bring out the positive effects of memory recall. We have the students encourage patients to sing, dance, and play rhythm instruments so that the patients feel as if they are engaging with the students and music. We also bring in fidget toys for the patients to have which helps them lose stress. To fulfill the goal of connecting with music anytime, we have music boxes specially designed to play music familiar to patients that they can have when our program is not here.

About our founder
My name is Joanne Choi
Hello! My name is Joanne Choi and I am a student at A.W Dreyfoos High School of the Arts. I major in piano but I enjoy playing both piano and cello. I’ve been playing piano for almost 9 years and I enjoy performing at recitals, competitions, and nursing homes. I’m very passionate about making people in need happier and lifting up their day. This is why I created Music for Memory! I started playing at senior living facilities when I was 12 years old. I created this in June of 2024 and I’m continuing to grow it to this day.
